The Bloomington Parks & Recreation Department offers group and private swim lessons to children as young as 6 months of age. A progressive system is used where students move at their own pace through a series of levels or stations. Private lessons are also available. Please see the program guide for a complete list of class offerings.
Morning sessions are held at Holiday and O’Neil pool for Youth and Preschool students. Classes meet Monday – Thursday for two weeks.
Evening sessions are held on M/W at O’Neil pool and Tu/Th at Holiday Pool. There are lessons for all ages, including adults. Classes meet twice a week for 4 weeks.
Private & Semi Private Swim Lessons (ages 4 and up)
Benefits of private lessons in addition to 1:1 instruction include conquering previous fear, adapted goals, and more practice time with direct instruction and feedback. Instructors use our swim program progressions at an individualized pace.
Semi private lessons offer similar experience with 2 – 3 students per teacher. Individuals will be paired up with others at a similar level or be placed with another swimmer upon request of all parties.
Swim Lesson Level Testing
We will test the first day of classes or you can stop in during open swim on Friday, June 2 and Friday, July 7. To verify our records, we ask that returning participants bring their most recent pass cards to the first day of swim lessons. We will do our best to log your child’s progress through our program.
Specifics on Summer 2017 classes are in the Summer Program Guide.
Call the Hot-Line at 434-2386 for Swim lesson cancellations. Cancellations will be made only in the event of severe weather. Illinois weather changes quickly so classes will be cancelled approximately 15 minutes before each class starts. Cancellations for the entire morning of swim lessons are rarely made. Any class cancellations will be made up on Fridays.
