Construction at the Zoo
Concessions menu expands as construction continues on Park side of concessions building and parking lot. To learn more, click here.
Hopefully, you have had an opportunity to enjoy delicious food and drink from the recently opened concession stand. The menu has been expanded, making lunch and snacks at the Zoo a fun part of any visit. The concessions building will serve both in the Zoo and on the Park side when parking lot construction is complete this fall. Until then Park guests are granted entrance to the Zoo (at no cost) to make Concession Stand purchases. Early summer weather was not favorable for construction but things are looking up and this fall both Zoo and Park visitors can expect to find tasty treats at the Miller Park Concession Stand!

Members Night Success
Despite the heat zoo members came in record numbers to enjoy the animals, zookeeper presentations, food and much more. Click here to see photos and more about this fun member’s event.
There are many reasons to support Miller Park Zoo. A Zoo membership is one important way, and our recent Members Night event shows that this option not only benefits the residents of our zoo but also comes with some fun benefits to our members.
An annual event, Members Night was held July 18 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Over 650 guests enjoyed animal encounters, zookeeper presentations, food and drinks from seven stations located throughout the Zoo, free carousel rides and face painting by the Zoo Lady. It was a hot summer evening but that didn’t seem to bother our members.
Hats off to those who volunteered that evening to assure the events success. It took over 25 hardworking friends of Miller Park Zoo to plan, setup and serve our members. We also want to thank Avanti’s, the Meads Family, Monical’s Pizza, Jason’s Deli, Tarvin’s Culligan Water, the Donut Experiment, Papa John’s Pizza and Beer Nuts for donating food and drinks for the event. We also want to thank Miller Park Zoo staff who worked extra hours to make this a special evening for our members.

Zoo Night at Keg Grove Brewing Company
On Wednesday, August 21, 3:00 pm – 9:00 pm it’s Miller Park Zoo Night at Keg Grove. Come join the fun and help us pack the brewery. All tips generously made that night will go to support Miller Park Zoo. Since this is a beer themed event it’s fitting to have the Bloomington Normal Jaycees, who worked in partnership with the Zoological Society to bring you Brews at the Zoo, present a check for the proceeds from this year’s event. The presentation is at 5:00 and you won’t want to miss it!
Nine (count them nine) San Clemente Island Goats have been born at your Miller Park Zoo this spring/summer.
The goats are native to San Clemente Island, one of the Channel Islands off the coast of California. The goats are listed as a critically rare heritage breed. The global population of San Clemente Island Goats is around 700.
The Miller Park Zoo was the first Zoo to have a San Clemente Island Goat born in the state of Illinois. Only a small number of zoos exhibit San Clemente Island Goats. The breed is relatively small, but larger than dwarf breeds. They are typically red or tan with black markings.
The goat kids can be seen on exhibit in the Children’s Zoo area.
Miller Park Zoo welcomed 5 Pallas’ cat kittens to the Zoo. This is the first birth of Pallas’ cats at Miller Park Zoo. The male was imported from the Czech Republic meaning these genetics are new and significant.
Miller Park Zoo has never had a breeding pair of Pallas’ cats until this pair was introduced in December. Breeding programs are an important part of the Miller Park Zoo mission, and play a vital part in the conservation goal of Species Survival Plan (SSP). One of the primary challenges facing captive breeding programs is maintaining genetic diversity. Breeding is carefully managed to ensure as much genetic variation as possible. Importing animals gives the population a new line of genetics.
The Pallas’ cat, also called manul, is a small cat located in the grasslands and montane steppes of Central Asia, where it inhabits elevations over 3 miles in the Tibetan Plateau. It has been affected by habitat destruction, loss of natural prey and hunting. It has been listed as Near Threatened since 2002.
The Pallas’ Cat exhibit is located across from the North American River Otter exhibit.
Concession Stand Now Open

In a few weeks, Chicken strips, pizzas and cheese curds will be added to the menu. Come and grab a bite to eat and something to drink the next time you are at the Zoo. Miller Park Zoological Society members receive a 10% discount at the Concession Stand and Gift Shop.
